R. W. Green, of This City; He Had Been Devoted to His Wife and Two Children Alarmed over his mysterious disappearance from his home, relatives of Solomn B. Kennedy, 29, member of a prominent Davidson county family, whose abandoned automobile was found on Broad street Sunday, were today sending a description of him to officers in nearby cities in an effort to find Kennedy. His relatives have not seen him since Friday and they believe he is either the victim of foul play or is mentally unbalanced. Kennedy, who holds a position with the Hayworth Roll and Panel company here, lives near Thomasville and has a wife and two children. He comes to and from his work by automobile. Friday he complained of not feeling well and left his work in the furniture plant. Later in the evening he telephones relatives that he was unable to start his automobile and would not be home for the night. Not until Saturday afternoon did relatives of Kennedy become alarmed. He was reported to have been seen walking the streets during the day, but he did not commmunicate with members of his family. On Sunday the police found an abandoned automobile on Broad street near the Elks home and an investigation disclosed that it was Kennedy's. The machine is in the garage of the Wilson Motor company. Kennedy is a brother of Mrs. M. R. W. Green, 213 King street. Discussing the mysterious disappearance of her brother, Mrs. Green said today that relatives had visited the hospitals and hotels in an effort to find him, but were informed that he had not been there. Mrs. Green was unable to state why her brother should leave home. "He has been married 11 years and has always been devoted to his wife and children," she said. "He had been in ill health for sometime and we are of the opinion that his mind has become affected. He is either wandering about or somebody has kidnaped him." Kennedy weighs only 117 pounds, has blue eyes, light brown hair and a scar on his face. Friday Afternoon, March 30, 1923 Locate Man Mysteriously Missing From Thomasville THOMASVILLE, March 30 -- Solomon Kennedy, head of a family living north of town a few miles and formerly a laborer in a High Point shop, who mysteriously disappeared several weeks ago, has been heard from and is in another state, the point not given. At the time of his disapearance, he left his shop at the noon hour in High Point, his car containing his lunch standing on an important street nad no trace of him could be found by his relatives nor by officers of that city. According to reports here today Kennedy was infatuated with the bait of strangers, following a will-o-the-wisp in which he found himself to be loser. 1923-05-08 High Point Enterprise p1: High Point Enterprise High Point, N. C. Tuesday Afternoon, May 8, 1923 Kennedy Now In Northern State Relatives Hear From Man Who Mysteriously Disappeeared From This City Solomon B. Kennedy, well known white man, who mysteriously disappeared from this city several weeks ago, has been heard from by relatives, it was learned here today. He is now in a northern state. Relatives here said Kennedy stated in his letter that he sent a communication to his wife explaining his absence, but this letter was not received by his wife. No explanation concerning why he left home was made by relatives who said today they had heard from the missing man. Kennedy, who lives in Davidson county, held a position with the Hayworth Roll and Panel company here. He came to work as usual one morning and on the following night failed to return to his home. Until the letter was received from him in the north he had not been seen or heard of by his people here. Alarmed over his disappearance and fearing that he had met with foul play or was suffering from some mental disease, relatives offered a reward of $100 for information concerning his whereabouts. 1923-08-03 High Point Enterprise p5: The High Point Enterprise, Friday, August 3, 1923 To Bring Kennedy Back to Davidson Sheriff Talbert Returning With Man Who Mysteriously Disappeared From This City Solomon B. Kennedy, of Davidson county, whose relatives became alarmed when he mysteriously disappeared from High Point several months ago, has been apprehended at Bernardino, Cal. Sheriff R. B. Talbert, of Davidson county, who went for Kennedy, is now returning to North Carolina with the prisoner it was learned here today. A telegram retrieved at Lexington from the sheriff said Kennedy lost his legal right to prevent extradition. He is charged with abandonment and non-support and is expected to furnish bond when he arrives at Lexington next week. Friends of Kennedy at Thomasville are reported to have denied that his disappearance constitutes abandonment. They claim, it is said, that Kennedy had written his wife and sent her money, but officers say they were informed that no money was sent in any of the letters she received from her husband. Kennedy, who lived in Davidson county and held a position in a local furniture factory, went to and from his work in an automobile, One day he failed to return to his home. The police were notified and a search was made, but he was not located. His abandoned automobile was found near the Southern train station. Relatives were of opinion at that time that Kennedy was either the victim of foul play or that he was suffering from a mental disease and had wandered away. Later, however, a letter was received from him.
